Despite improvements in LoL, especially in graphics and visuals, Riot has maintained a commitment to updating older champions to meet the latest standards through processes such as VGU, ASU, VFX updates, and minor enhancements. However, the release of these updates tends to be time-consuming.

Why porting Wild Rift champions to League of Legends is impractical

In response to a player’s inquiry during an AMA session, Riot Lexical explained the impracticality of directly transferring models from Wild Rift to the League PC version. Drawing an analogy with early-day in Google translation, she highlighted the inaccuracy in such a process and emphasized the importance of rewriting content from scratch for optimal results.

Furthermore, Lexical pointed out challenges related to resource allocation and team dynamics. She explained that the artistic discipline is often stretched thin, with team members already committed to ongoing projects.

Allocating an artist from one team to another for unrelated work is not a straightforward solution. Lexical cited an example from the release of Arena, where a lack of VFX was attributed to the absence of an available VFX artist during that particular timeframe.

Addressing the dynamic nature of artistic teams, Lexical noted that artists frequently join and leave, causing disruptions in project timelines. When an artist departs, there is a considerable delay as a replacement is trained, impacting the overall workflow.

Lexical concluded that the intricate nature of these challenges, including resource constraints and team dynamics, contributes to the time-consuming nature of updating champions in League of Legends and underscores why a direct port from Wild Rift is deemed impractical by Riot Games.

A recent controversy within the League of Legends community has brought this issue to the forefront, as fans have accused Riot Games of allegedly ‘stealing’ fan-created art for the introduction of new champion icons in the Wild Rift Patch 4.4.

In this forthcoming patch, Riot plans to introduce new champion icons, two of which are centered on Zyra and Evelynn. However, the astute eyes of some community members immediately identified the artwork used in these icons as eerily similar to existing fan art. These fans contend that Riot has essentially taken this fan art, made slight alterations, and is now offering the modified images as in-game icons for sale.

What further complicates this situation is the claim made by yet another member of the community: the original artists supposedly never granted consent for their artwork to be used as official icons within the game.

According to reports, these artists contact with Riot Games to explore potential resolutions to this dispute. Intriguingly, this incident is not the first of its kind involving Riot Games, as the company had been previously accused of using fan art without the artist’s permission in the creation of in-game assets.

A notable example from 2021 involved allegations that Riot had utilized artwork from various artists to create the “Playful Pup” emote for League of Legends. This matter was eventually addressed by the game’s developers, and former game director Jonathan “Bellissimoh” Belliss acknowledged the error.

He also explained that Riot frequently collaborates with external artists when creating in-game icons, which introduces the possibility of some artists passing off others’ work as their own in attempts to have it featured in the game.

The response from Riot Games regarding these allegations is still pending, leaving fans eager for an official statement. As the controversy unfolds, there is a reasonable expectation that Riot may opt to remove the contested icons, thereby navigating the delicate terrain of intellectual property rights in the world of digital art.

Riot Games addressed Exclusive Skins issues across various titles https://notagamer.net/riot-games-exclusive-skins-issues/ https://notagamer.net/riot-games-exclusive-skins-issues/#respond Wed, 20 Sep 2023 02:16:44 +0000 https://notagamer.net/?p=65129 Riot Games recently addressed the issue of exclusive skins across their various titles in a Twitter thread

In recent years, cosmetics have become a crucial aspect of Riot Games, not only in League of Legends but also in other Riot Games’ titles like VALORANT, Wild Rift, Legends of Runeterra.

To cater to the individual player bases of these games, Riot introduced exclusive skins that were only available within a specific game. While this pleased players, it didn’t sit well with those who played other Riot titles, particularly within the League of Legends universe.

Star Guardian Wild Rift x LoL

Players noted the thematic similarities between League of Legends, Legends of Runeterra, and Wild Rift, leading them to question why certain games had exclusive skins. Riot has since begun the process of porting some Wild Rift skins into League of Legends, such as some of the Star Guardian skins.

In response to the discussion, Matt Buchholtz, Riot’s Lead of Legends of Runeterra, clarified that skins are not locked exclusively to one game.

He explained that different teams at Riot create exclusive skins for their respective IPs, which means these skins may not appear in all games simultaneously. However, some skin lines, like Star Guardian and Soul Fighter, are shared across multiple games.

Buchholtz encouraged players to voice their preferences and requests regarding skins in their favorite Riot games’ titles. Riot is open to considering players’ feedback, although he emphasized that requests should be made respectfully and constructively.

Riot has a history of taking player feedback into account, as long as it’s conveyed in a constructive manner. He also provided information on where players can share their feedback.

In summary, this development is welcome news for players who wish to see their favorite skins appear in other Riot Games’ title. Players are encouraged to communicate their preferences, and Riot will internally discuss these requests.

Wild Rift Soul Fighter Skins: Splash Arts, Prices, Release Date, and more https://notagamer.net/wild-rift-soul-fighter-skins/ https://notagamer.net/wild-rift-soul-fighter-skins/#respond Thu, 29 Jun 2023 03:22:10 +0000 https://notagamer.net/?p=62312 Riot has released all of the special Soul Fighter skins that will be available in Wild Rift

Riot holds enormous events across all of its titles every summer. This year will be no exception.

Around the same time last year, we received the Star Guardian event. It took place across several Riot titles, including League of Legends, Wild Rift, Legends of Runeterra, and Teamfight Tactics. While the idea was similar, each game in this event presented something completely distinct.

Wild Rift Soul Fighter Skins: Splash Arts, Prices, Release Date, and more 11

Riot has recently released a teaser that teases much of the forthcoming content in Wild Rift during this event.  A new game mode, a new “meta-game,” new objectives, and, most importantly, new skins are among the major contents.

Wild Rift players, in particular, will be treated to an exclusive story centred on Yasuo and Draven competing in the Tournament of Souls, similar to those seen in previous Sentinels of Light and Star Guardian events. Those who wish to put their talents to the test can participate in the mobile title’s limited-time “Tag Duel” mode, which plays similarly to a tag fighting game.

The Soul Fighter cast will also appear drastically different in Wild Rift compared to Lol, with none of the LoL skins making their way into Wild Rift. Instead, Wild Rift will receive six unique skins that only its players will be able to use, including Nilah’s debut skin.

Riot hinted at adding a new Ice Drake into League of Legends https://notagamer.net/riot-adding-ice-drake-league-of-legends/ https://notagamer.net/riot-adding-ice-drake-league-of-legends/#respond Thu, 15 Jun 2023 14:58:09 +0000 https://notagamer.net/?p=61880 Riot has indicated that the unique Wild Rift Ice Dragon may make an appearance on League of Legends.

Elemental dragons or Drakes are in-game objectives found near Summoner’s Rift’s bot lane. The team that slayed the dragon would gain many status bonuses. Furthermore, if a team kills four dragons, they will earn a dragon soul. This would provide them with a game-changing buffs, making it more difficult for the opposition side to come back.

There are now six distinct elemental dragons in League of Legends. Mountain, Wind, Ocean, Infernal, Hextech, and Chemtech Drake are their names. Each of them delivers a distinct bonus from the others.

Riot opened up on new Ice Drake coming to League of Legends

Ice Drake, the first-ever Wild Rift exclusive elemental dragon, was added last month by Riot. Because it was unique, it was highly embraced by the Wild Rift community. Many fans have questioned Riot when this dragon will be available on PC. Riot, surprise, was agreeable to the concept.

Riot hinted at adding a new Ice Drake into League of Legends 22

A player recently asked the designers on Reddit if the Wild Rift exclusive Drake will be coming to League also. Riot Meddler said that if the Ice Drake is successful in Wild Rift, they will consider introducing it to the PC version.

When you kill Ice Drake in Wild Rift, he will award your team bonus ability haste. If the Ice Dragon is the first dragon slain, the rift will also turn into frozen terrain. Ice will begin to spawn around existing terrain. If the player walks near the specified ice, he will gain extra movement speed.

Along with ice in the environment, players may now locate Frozen Fruit, a new variety of fruit in the jungle. When the fruit is destroyed, a missile is sent in the intended direction. And if an adversary is hit, they are stunned.

However, new dragons aren’t a top priority for them right now. They are now focused on preseason gameplay concerns and significant improvements. So, if we do see a new dragon, it won’t happen anytime soon.

Riot has confirmed exclusive Wild Rift skins to arrive in League of Legends https://notagamer.net/riot-exclusive-wild-rift-skins-arrive-league-of-legends/ https://notagamer.net/riot-exclusive-wild-rift-skins-arrive-league-of-legends/#respond Fri, 17 Feb 2023 16:17:36 +0000 https://notagamer.net/?p=58437 Riot Games has confirmed that after years of user requests, exclusive Wild Rift skins will be made available for the famous MOBA game’s PC edition

Riot’s League Executive Producer, Jeremy “Brightmoon” Lee, and League Studio Head, Andrei “Meddler” van Roon, followed up on their previous month’s video to talk Riot Games’ future plans for League of Legends skins.

Exclusive League of Legends: Wild Rift skins will be published on the PC edition of the game, according to the developers. The developers disclosed that the first three Wild Rift skins to be presented in League of Legends will be Star Guardian Seraphine, Redeemed Star Guardian Xayah, and Redeemed Star Guardian Rakan.

“We are going to start by looking at porting over some of the most commonly requested skins, with Star Guardian Seraphine, Redeemed Xayah and Rakan, and hopefully more in the future depending on how those go.”

Riot also revealed that some of the mobile-only themes will be accessible on the Desktop client, three years after the introduction of the first Wild Rift exclusive skin, Glorious Tryndamere.

Brightmoon and Meddler’s comments have undoubtedly uplifted the community, though they did not provide fans with a precise timeline for when these skins will be available in the game’s PC edition.

Since the release of the mobile edition of League, players have requested that Wild Rift skins be made available on PC as well. The detailed models of the champions and exclusive skins, as well as the various themes unique to Wild Rift, have made PC players jealous, as they are sometimes trapped with old and outdated models.

Furthermore, Riot has stated that they are thinking about upgrading some of the older cosmetics, such as Rugged Garen, which were introduced long before the idea of Wild Rift itself.

“In terms of Splash-Art, we are also still working, of course, to update some of League’s older Splash-Art; in some cases porting over Wild Rift’s Splashes, in other cases doing some new ones inspired by some of the Wild Rift Splashes.”

While there are currently no dates for when new cosmetics and modifications to existing skins will be accessible, League of Legends players can expect to see more updated models on the Rift in the near future. Riot has promised to keep players in the know about future developments.

Why is Wild Rift getting better skins than League of Legends? https://notagamer.net/wild-rift-better-skins-than-league-of-legends/ https://notagamer.net/wild-rift-better-skins-than-league-of-legends/#respond Sat, 31 Dec 2022 15:59:31 +0000 https://notagamer.net/?p=57014 The League of Legends fanbase has been continually stumped as to why Wild Rift receives special skins that never appear in League of Legends. The communities have erupted once more with the arrival of new Mythmaker skins.

The concerns leveled about Wild Rift are not new, and they mostly surround the fact that the MOBA mobile version obtains exclusive skins. The major reason is that players believe Riot Games favors Wild Rift more and are pushing for more fairness between the two titles.

Why Wild Rift has exclusive skins?

glorious crimson nami
Image via Riot Games

The release of new WR skins such as PROJECT: Zeri, Mythmaker Gwen, Glorious Crimson Nami… has heightened player displeasure, with the community asking if the skins are truly exclusive to the mobile edition.

Although the assumption that because both games use the same in-game splash arts and models, it should be far easier to move LoL skins to Wild Rift than to design one from scratch makes some logic at first look, it is far from reality.

project zeri
Image via Riot Games

To begin, it is important to recognize that Wild Rift and League of Legends are not the same game: the material, like the gameplay, differs. The mobile version is not a straightforward “copy and paste” of the original PC version. Furthermore, the two games are administered by separate teams.

mythmaker camille
Image via Riot Games

Also, Wild Rift is getting skins that don’t exist in League of Legends since the LoL and WR teams are assessing content production requests with each of these games in mind entirely. They try to find out what makes sense to the two titles’ respective target audiences, then compare their thoughts.

With shared universes in which both games have a significant interest, bringing the best to fans of both titles is becoming increasingly crucial.

patch 13.1
Image via Riot Games

According to a Rioter, producing skins in Wild Rift takes twice as long as in LoL, owing to the animations of each skin. As a result, the WR team must select its skins long before they are released. When it makes sense, they design skins for both games at the same time, but when it doesn’t, each game receives exclusives, even if just for a short time.
