Janna is scheduled to receive a VFX upgrade that will put a strong emphasis on her identity, spell readability, and optimization, even though we weren’t expecting to see her receive one. Like previous VFX updates for characters like Fizz, Leona, and Nami, Janna’s VFX update will enhance the sharpness of her spells while bringing the visuals up to the most recent League standards.
As anticipated, the spell effects on base Janna, Hextech Janna, Frost Queen Janna, Victorious Janna, and Forecast Janna will be addressed and enhanced. The adjustments to base Janna’s skin will also affect the recolored Tempest Janna’s skin. On the other side, only Howling Gale and Monsoon will receive updates from Star Guardian Janna, Sacred Sword Janna, Bewitching Janna, Guardian of the Sands Janna, Battle Queen Janna, Crystal Rose Janna, Cyber Halo Janna, and Prestige Cyber Halo Janna.
]]>League of Legends Patch 12.7 will be live in less than two weeks, and although we are still getting used to all of the updates in Patch 12.6, such as the new lifesteal nerfs or the new Rengar update, we want to take a peek to see what changes may be coming to the game soon.
Riot Games have been continuously updating some underwhelming champions ever since season 12 in order to make them more appealing and fit in today’s meta, champions like Ahri, Master Yi, Rengar, and this time is Pantheon.
The Unbreakable Spear is getting buffed in Patch 12.7. Although the changes are rather minor (not as similar as Rengar’s mini-rework), but hopefully those adjustments will help him with his pick rate.
Patch 12.6 didn’t see any Swain changes, according to Riot Games’ patch note. Some modifications were offered prior of Patch 12.6, but Riot swiftly removed them from the PBE server to give Swain more time to find out what improvements needed to be done to make this champion feel more satisfying to play. So, whether the change will be available in 12.7 is yet uncertain, but we’re speculating that it may.
Three champions will have their whole kit, abilities, and skins visually updated. These will mostly affect their abilities, tidying them up and making their hitboxes more visible.
We got a new mythic shop in Patch 12.6, but that’s only phase 1. Riot even made some changes so that players wouldn’t have to pay out their money for a single prestige skin.
However, there were a few tweaks and modifications that could not be included in the patch, so we will have to wait for the full patch 12.7 to see some more mythic content. Some old prestige skins received a redesign, but some have yet to get one, which is why you’ll have to wait until the next patch for certain updates.
According to League Patch note schedule, The upcoming patch 12.7 will go live on April 13, 2022, which leaves players only a few days later for the full patch preview.
]]>Orianna may not be the most thrilling champion to play or watch, but she is a popular champion in League of Legends, and she is also a very old champion, having originally appeared in League in 2011.
The developers are working on improvements for champions whose skills need to be improved. The objective is to bring some of these classic champions’ visual effects up to current League standards while also improving gameplay clarity.
According to Riot Zhanos, the Visual Effect Artist in charge of Orianna VFX, this update will mostly focus on her W and R, but she will still receive a full update for improved visual clarity, cleaner hitboxes, and a quality push to meet the current standards.
Riot’s skins were updated with the new VFX as part of the other visual changes they’ve done in the previous few months. This implies that many of her old skins may be improved as well, although we still feel the changes won’t be as significant as we expected.
So keep a watch out, because Orianna will be getting some new animations and a much cleaner design in League patch 12.7.
]]>Vayne was debuted in 2011 and rapidly became one of tanks’ worst nightmares as a lethal AD Carry who delivered on the concept of a hunter in League.
Riot has provided her with little cosmetic care since then, with the exception of one in 2015. In a future VFX update for the champion, the firm plans to “modernize” the Night Hunter’s costumes and effects is on the right track.
On the LeaguePBE subreddit forum, Riot Sirhaian clarified their aims for the changes. Apparently, this VFX update is not intended to be an entire overhaul update as the previous (Syndra, Zilean, Malzahar,…) since Vayne’s kit doesn’t have many “VFX opportunities”.
“This one particular VFX Update is of a smaller scale, as Vayne does not have a ton of VFX opportunities in her kit. We have mainly focused on cleaning up and modernizing her kit, removing some of the old noise that was present.”
Although the improvements are less significant than other VFX upgrades, they improve her motions and make her more compatible.
On the update VFX, her auto-attacks can be seen more clearly and denser, along with her W procs to be more modernized. Condemn, her E, now fires a considerably bigger and more red-dish arrow which is now easier to react. Her ultimate, Final Hour, now offers her a gray glow, emphasizing how powerful she is by her ability.
Here is a list of all the skins that will be updated for Vayne:
Riot has said that the VFX update would be released with patch 12.2 on the PBE server.
]]>Caitlyn is one of League of Legends’ oldest champions. Her skills have held up well over time, but her in-game model has not. Yet until recently, we can see multiple of her character model getting new updates in many other games (TFT, Legends of Runeterra and Wild Rift), except for League.
Finally, Riot has announced that Caitlyn will be receiving a full VFX updates to speed her up with League of Legends’ design ideas. Her in-game model receives a redesign with a new video featuring a completely new theme and loads of concept art for multiple of her skins, with the new animated series Arcane launching in a week.
With her appearance in Riot Games’ forthcoming animated series Arcane, Riot has chosen to make sure that her in-game portrayal matches her on Netflix.
In the latest champion theme video posted by Riot, Caitlyn’s new look is highlighted across all of her skins. Most of her former skin splash art, including Officer, Arctic Warfare, Resistance, Sheriff, and Safari, have had a huge update. These splashes’ art styles were rather antiquated and in dire need of an update.
Here’s the first look at all of her major skin and splash art modifications
Given that Arcane is set to debut on November 6, this VFX makeover is likely to arrive sooner than later. Caitlyn’s enigmatic origin story will be presented on Netflix for anyone interested in seeing Piltover’s deadliest sniper’s new look.
]]>More VFX updates are coming to League of Legends.
Riot has enhanced Jinx and Jayce’s animations and visual effects as the debut date of League’s new anime Netflix series Arcane approaches. While the developer has frequently adjusted abilities, it appears that this update is purely cosmetic.
Jinx and Jayce both have pivotal parts in the new Netflix program, and with the emphasis squarely on them, now is an excellent opportunity to give the almost decade-old characters a VFX makeover.
Jinx is receiving an upgrade that will increase the visual quality of her moves. As shown above, her ultimate ability ‘Super Mega Death Rocket!’ now has a greater blast upon contact, as well as a larger rocket — making it easier to notice.
Her Q ability, ‘Switcheroo!,’ toggles between her mini-gun and rocket launcher auto attacks. The rocket launcher auto-attacks have been altered from a smoky look to a yellow pop effect.
Jinx’s W move, ‘Zap!,’ now has a clearer visual representation, with an indication highlighting the ability’s hit-box beneath it.
Her E ability, ‘Flame Chompers!’ has also been changed to make it easier to read. They will now have visible blue circles beneath them to indicate where foes can be rooted by them.
The following Jinx skins will receive a visual update:
Jayce will also undergo significant visual modifications.
His Q ability, ‘Shock Blast,’ gets a larger and crisper animation in Mercury Cannon form, as well as a new animation for the lightning around the weapon.
Mercury Hammer, his melee form, has new effects as well. When his Q ability, ‘To The Skies!,’ lands on its target, it produces a larger electric explosion.
‘Lightning Field,’ Jayce’s W ability, now glows a darker yellow hue and emits a more visible circle of energy surrounding him.
Jayce’s skins that will undergo significant alterations are as follows:
The new Arcane skins are scheduled to be released on November 2. Jayce, Jinx, Vi, and Caitlyn are among the characters getting new skins.
There hasn’t been an official release date established for the VFX upgrade for Jayce and Jinx. It’s conceivable that it’ll be published alongside the Arcane skins, but nothing has been confirmed.
Riot has been delivering VFX upgrades for its older champions on a regular basis, and the timing of Jinx and Jayce’s improvements should coincide well with Arcane’s Netflix launch.
]]>The most adored timebender in League of Legends is getting some attention from the devs.
Senior VFX artist Kevin “Sirhaian” Leroy demonstrated a few “very low scope” VFX improvements for Zilean today, which should be ready in the Patch 11.14 PBE cycle. As one of League’s oldest champions, the Chronokeeper’s basic animations will be updated to “match his Legends of Runeterra aesthetics.”
Zilean’s Time Bomb (Q) will be much more modernized, with a clear blue animation that pulses before exploding. And the roman numbers on the clock appear to have been changed with what appear to be runic symbols. Time Warp (E) and auto attacks for the champion will be enhanced, together with his Chronoshift (R). Instead of the old outdated resurrection animation, now a brilliant blue clock will swirl around him before resurrecting during his ultimate.
Sirhaian noted that the VFX in the others of Zilean’s skins remained untouched, with the exception of Shurima Desert, where “subtle sand was added.”
Last month, the Chronokeeper was added to the digital card game LoR, with contemporary and visually stunning animations. Riot most likely wanted to maintain that uniformity across both titles, therefore they chose to update some basic VFX on a champion launched in 2009.
With these VFX modifications expected to enter the PBE soon, they’ll most likely be sent out to live servers with Patch 11.14. According to the official patch schedule, League Patch 11.14 is set to go live on Thursday, July 8.
]]>The Sona update is, yeah, kind of, just around the corner.
League of Legends’ lead game designer, Jeevun Sidhu, briefed fans on the forthcoming Sona updates today, stating that the “design is locked” and that it will be available on live servers “later in the summer.”
Sidhu clarified that this is “not a big upgrade,” implying that there there be no significant changes to her model or skills. However, owing to modifications made to her passive, the developers still need to make minor VFX adjustments.
Riot suggests the Maven of the Strings has failed this season as a result of the item system restructuring. To show her some affection, the developers want to “cement her hyperscaling fantasy in a way that doesn’t solely rely on needing lane farm,” Sidhu said in March.
If the previously announced buffs are implemented, the mana compensation mechanic from Sona’s Q, W, and E will be disabled, as well as their cost reduced. The Crescendo passive, which removes the cooldown on her basic skills, will also be removed, but it would be replaced with a new Resonance character passive. This will allow her to indefinitely stack skill haste when doing damage to an opponent or assisting an ally. The exact numbers on the skills are most likely provisional and subject to adjustment after further playtesting.
Riot recently made similar changes to Xin Zhao and Rammus, assisting the underwhelming champions in responding to fit well in this much-changing season.
]]>Have you ever wished that you could spit on your enemies with Kog’Maw in HD quality? You should, though, do so now.
Riot Games’ lead visual effects designer Oliver “Beardilocks” McDonald revealed the new League of Legends VFX update today, focusing on Kog’Maw, the adorable void pup.
The update, which is scheduled to be released shortly on the PBE, introduces a new model texture as well as a new armor and magic resistance shred symbol. According to Beardilocks, the update’s goals are to increase “gameplay clarification on missile widths, R edge indicator, and W/P empowered state.”
Beardilocks also made a few exceptions with Kog’Maw, as the developers usually do not apply exclusive VFX to skins that cost less than 1,350 RP (roughly $10). Many of the champion’s skins cost 520 or 975 RP, but since they all had custom recolors while he was in his Bio-Arcane Barrage (W), the dev went back and changed them all to make them “feel even more inspired.” As a result, there’s a nasty neon trail of vomit that’s greener and brighter than ever.
With the new update, the 1,350 RP Lion Dance Kog’Maw skin now has a special Void Ooze (E) influence. Now he spits out a “big ball of goopy” fireworks that roll at you.
Much of the champion’s latest skins, on the other hand, were simply “prettied up,” with the Living Artillery (R) range indicator implicitly added since they were still in a “pretty good spot.”
According to Beardilocks, these updates will not be implemented on the live servers for some time. The VFX update will be available on the PBE for “an extended period of time” or “at least two” periods. This means that fans will most likely have to wait until May to play the latest and improved Kog’Maw.
]]>One of the oldest champions of League of Legends – Rammus – The Armodillo is having his full makeover coming soon on PBE.
As his new Ultimate – Roaring Slam was revealed in January, fans are excited about the upcoming VFX and ability update for this champion ever since. Earlier today, more information about his updates has just been detailed by Riot Sirhaian – a senior VFX artist of the game. The upcoming adjustments are announced to hit the PBE tomorrow and will land on the official servers at the end of Spring.
Some of the major VFX adjustments were showcased in a video posted by Sirhaian, showing that The Armodillo is keeping up with the current standards of visuals.
While using his iconic Q, Powerball, Rammus now has clear wheel marks wherever he passed as dirt flying around him as an indicator of his extreme movement speed. His W, Defense Ball Curl also has a clearer VFX update, replacing his used-to-be simple shield with a spiky shield that perfectly matches this champion’s theme and concept.
Rammus’s E, Frenzying Taunt now also added an indicator of the direction which his enemies have to face when being taunted by him. The effect is much similar to Rell’s E, but only served for better recognization and makes the effects to be much clearer.
His updated Ultimate – Roaring Slam will alows him to jump right into the battle. The ability makes Rammus leap into the air and slam down in the target location, dealing damage and slow on the area, a bonus amount of damage based on how far he leaped will also be dealt to enemies who are standing in the middle of the ability. When casting after using his Q, players who are standing in the middle of his Ultimate will also be knocked up.
His old Ultimate, however, will continues to live on as a second feature of his Ultimate. After he landed the slam, an aftershock will be created on the area around it, continue to cause damage and slow opponents even more.
Asides, Riot Sirhaian also revealed that his skins will receiving visual updates as well. For example, Ninja Rammus and Molten Rammus will has different Q effect based on its theme, while King Rammus’s W will have a crown topped of its shield along with the spiky VFX.
All his updates will be available on PBE tomorrow, however, these changes are not yet final and might receive further adjustments before the official release at the end of this Spring.
