LCK Spring 2024: Garen first debut, Rammus returned after 10 years, and more https://notagamer.net/lck-spring-2024-garen-debut-rammus-returned/ https://notagamer.net/lck-spring-2024-garen-debut-rammus-returned/#respond Sat, 17 Feb 2024 09:56:51 +0000 https://notagamer.net/?p=70537 Garen, Rammus, and Zyra emerged as LCK Spring 2024 picks

The match day of February 16 in the Spring 2024 LCK season sparked heightened interest among League of Legends players, thanks to several unexpected choices by participating teams.

The LCK, renowned for its adherence to the meta and traditional picks, witnessed a refreshing wave of experimentation during the group stage matches.

Among the intriguing selections, three stood out prominently, captivating both commentators and fans alike. Firstly, DNDN’s decision to use Garen in the top lane during Game 2 against Kwangdong Freecs and FearX sparked considerable attention.

While Garen’s utilization to counter K’Sante in the top lane has been witnessed in other leagues, it marked a historic first for the LCK, a tournament with over a decade of rich history. The mere presence of Garen in an LCK match after so many years injected an element into the gameplay, breaking away from the league’s conventional choices.

Similarly, Pyosik’s adoption of Rammus in the Jungle between KT Rolster and Nongshim RedForce added another layer of excitement. Recognizing the opponent’s heavy reliance on Physical Damage champions, the Worlds 2022 champion strategically opted for Rammus, marking the champion’s first appearance in the LCK Jungle position in over a decade, dating back to the 2013 Winter.

Furthermore, BeryL’s unconventional selection of Zyra as Support introduced a fresh dynamic to the gameplay, with the champion having been absent from the LCK for more than three years.

Despite Garen’s lackluster performance, both Rammus and Zyra emerged victorious, showcasing the potential for teams to confidently introduce more surprises in future matches.

The inclusion of these off-meta picks not only piqued the interest of viewers but also hinted at a shift towards a more dynamic and unpredictable meta within the tournament. As teams continue to explore unconventional strategies, spectators eagerly anticipate the emergence of many other unexpected champions in future matches, promising an exhilarating viewing experience for all.

Riot Games got accused of ‘stealing’ fan arts for in-game icons https://notagamer.net/riot-games-stealing-fan-arts-in-game-icons/ https://notagamer.net/riot-games-stealing-fan-arts-in-game-icons/#respond Thu, 26 Oct 2023 16:19:28 +0000 https://notagamer.net/?p=66283 Plagiarism constitutes a significant transgression within art, and it’s a regrettable reality that some artists may find themselves unwitting victims of such unethical practices, even from the most unexpected sources.

Riot Games using fan arts for Wild Rift in-game icons

Riot Games got accused of 'stealing' fan arts for in-game icons 6

A recent controversy within the League of Legends community has brought this issue to the forefront, as fans have accused Riot Games of allegedly ‘stealing’ fan-created art for the introduction of new champion icons in the Wild Rift Patch 4.4.

In this forthcoming patch, Riot plans to introduce new champion icons, two of which are centered on Zyra and Evelynn. However, the astute eyes of some community members immediately identified the artwork used in these icons as eerily similar to existing fan art. These fans contend that Riot has essentially taken this fan art, made slight alterations, and is now offering the modified images as in-game icons for sale.

What further complicates this situation is the claim made by yet another member of the community: the original artists supposedly never granted consent for their artwork to be used as official icons within the game.

According to reports, these artists contact with Riot Games to explore potential resolutions to this dispute. Intriguingly, this incident is not the first of its kind involving Riot Games, as the company had been previously accused of using fan art without the artist’s permission in the creation of in-game assets.

A notable example from 2021 involved allegations that Riot had utilized artwork from various artists to create the “Playful Pup” emote for League of Legends. This matter was eventually addressed by the game’s developers, and former game director Jonathan “Bellissimoh” Belliss acknowledged the error.

He also explained that Riot frequently collaborates with external artists when creating in-game icons, which introduces the possibility of some artists passing off others’ work as their own in attempts to have it featured in the game.

The response from Riot Games regarding these allegations is still pending, leaving fans eager for an official statement. As the controversy unfolds, there is a reasonable expectation that Riot may opt to remove the contested icons, thereby navigating the delicate terrain of intellectual property rights in the world of digital art.

Riot revealed Zyra’s Quality-of-life changes coming in League Patch 13.13 https://notagamer.net/riot-zyras-quality-of-life-changes-patch-13-13/ https://notagamer.net/riot-zyras-quality-of-life-changes-patch-13-13/#respond Thu, 15 Jun 2023 03:38:10 +0000 https://notagamer.net/?p=61864 Riot Games has set its sights on Zyra, a League of Legends champion who has been in severe need of care.

Riot Games is finally showing some love to Zyra with a handful of enhancements, all of which are set to be released in Patch 13.13. These modifications will have an effect not only on her core performance as a support, but also on her stats as a jungler.

League of Legends Zyra Buffs in patch 13.13

P – Garden of Thorns

  • Plant Dmg taken from AoE Spells: 4 >> 3
  • Plant Dmg to Monsters: 150% damage to non-epic monsters >> 40-100 bonus magic damage (scaling with level) to all monsters

W – Rampant Growth

  • Seeds on first Rankup: 1 >> 2

E – Grasping Roots

  • [Adjusted] No longer locks out flash during the cast

R – Stranglethorns

  • Cast Paradigm: Walk to Position >> Cast at max range
  • Missile Dmg Updae Cadence: 4/s >> 16/s

The essence of these buffs is that they expressly target certain plants. Plants will no longer take four bars of damage from area-of-effect abilities as part of her passive, instead taking three. Instead of inflicting a flat 150% damage to jungle monsters, all of Zyra’s plants deal an extra 40-100 magic damage that scales with her level.

Zyra’s early-game is also benefiting from the addition of two seeds immediately after ranking up her W for the first time, rather than simply one. Furthermore, similar to Morgana’s Q and Lux’s Q, Zyra will now be able to Flash when performing her E, giving her a bit more survivability if she’s in a tight spot.

Riot revealed Zyra's Quality-of-life changes coming in League Patch 13.13 18

Another big issue with Zyra’s kit is the mechanics of her ultimate. The ability’s range indication frequently needs Zyra to step forward for it to be thrown in its present setup. When she reaches the maximum range for the ability, it will now cast instantly, giving her enough time to effectively escape if required.

These improvements, along with others that will be published over the coming week and uploaded to the PBE for testing, will be made available on League’s live servers on June 28 with Patch 13.13.

Riot confirmed Zyra Mini-Rework with its Possible Changes https://notagamer.net/riot-zyra-mini-rework-possible-changes/ https://notagamer.net/riot-zyra-mini-rework-possible-changes/#respond Wed, 15 Mar 2023 15:21:11 +0000 https://notagamer.net/?p=59431 Zyra will be included in an upcoming mini-rework for League of Legends, according to Riot

Over the past year, League of Legends has experienced numerous midscopes and reworks. Along with the more recent Yuumi mini-rework, which wasn’t successful, there was the Aurelion Sol Rework, which truly remade the champion.

As reworks for Kayle and Neeko are in the works, additional mini-reworks are also anticipated. For older champions, there are undoubtedly still more updates to be made. One of those champions for whom Zyra hasn’t made any major updates. On that front, some news has emerged, as Zyra is on a roster to receive mid scope updates.

League of Legends Zyra Mid-Scope Updates

Image via Riot Games

The creator of the Aurelion Sol Rework, Riot Yelough, has expressed interest in redesigning Zyra. He recently stated that Zyra is on his list of possible mid scope updates to investigate. Therefore, Zyra hasn’t been overlooked by Riot because the game’s creators have her on their limited list.

Only his previously generated concepts have been shared on a stream with LS thus far. Both of these have been compiled in a Reddit thread.

  • Jungle Zyra
  • Something around movespeed with her plants
    • Zyra gains bonus movespeed near her plants
    • Zyra’s allies gain movespeed towards plant attack targets
  • Removing passive seed RNG in favor of adding more W stacks

Riot Yelough listed some potential changes in the aforementioned Reddit thread, but these are still not the enclosed adjustments or official changes.

The timing and likelihood of the champion’s updates are uncertain. Once Riot gives us a formal update, we will keep you informed about when the Rework will be released. Fans can only hope that Riot’s shortlisting of Zyra for a midscope will be implemented.

Riot is actually asking fans to determine the next Mini-rework for League of Legends next year https://notagamer.net/riot-fans-determine-mini-rework-league-of-legends/ https://notagamer.net/riot-fans-determine-mini-rework-league-of-legends/#respond Fri, 16 Dec 2022 16:44:51 +0000 https://notagamer.net/?p=56541 In season 12, Riot launched a brand-new kind of champion upgrade known as a mini-rework or mid-scope update. Riot adjusts the champion’s appearance without completely overhauling them with this update. As a consequence, champions in the game can be viable and pleasant to play.

Mid-scope updates in League of Legends are frequently selected by the community, and players now get the opportunity to be heard once again.

Riot asked fans for the next Mid-scope update next year

TheTruexy, a League game designer, initiated a Twitter conversation yesterday asking the community for ideas for the upcoming mid-scope updates.

Riot is actually asking fans to determine the next Mini-rework for League of Legends next year 22

He notably mentioned Swain and Ahri’s mid-scope updates, which went live in Patches 12.8 and 12.3, respectively. Both were well received by the League community, which praised the developers for implementing the adjustments while retaining the essence of the champions’ kits.

TheTruexy requested that the proposed champions be classified as “left behind,” and the community has already responded with some suggestions. Among them are Cho’Gath, Zyra, Jayce, LeBlanc, Annie, Nocturne, and Morgana.

Mid-scope adjustments are typically given to champions that have fallen behind in the current meta. Many of the champions mentioned by the community, like as Cho’Gath, Zyra, haven’t seen professional use in years and would benefit greatly from an overhaul from Riot.

However, a handful of mid-scope improvements are already scheduled for next year. Jax and Rell will be the first champions to get them, with the former getting them as soon as Patch 13.1, the first update in 2023.
