Over time, players have come to associate certain negative aspects with the game, which remain ingrained in their memories.

It’s surprising to think that Riot Games, with its extensive experience spanning 200 years collectively, would let these mechanics endure in League of Legends. However, let’s delve into the champion abilities that have caused historical uproar due to their overwhelming nature.

Mechanics that got removed from League of Legends

Irelia’s disarmed ultimate

Take the original version of Irelia, for example, which birthed the infamous “Better nerf Irelia” meme within League of Legends. This version of Irelia, with her powerful mechanics, seemed to excel in every aspect a champion needed.

From bonus damage and attack speed upon landing abilities, to dealing increased damage to shielded opponents, and even possessing healing abilities and cooldown resets, Irelia seemed unstoppable. Her kit, featuring reductions in all incoming damage and a disarming effect that left opponents helpless, made her nearly unbeatable in duels. Consequently, Riot Games had to continuously trim her abilities and apply nerfs to maintain balance.

Akali’s smoked bomb

Similarly, the original Akali remake stirred controversy with its overwhelming kit, including high damage output, healing abilities, and the ability to maneuver through terrain. One particularly contentious feature was the stealth mechanism within her Smoke Bomb, making it nearly impossible for opponents to navigate.

Despite player outcry, it took Riot Games several iterations and seasons to address these issues, gradually toning down Akali’s abilities and restoring balance into a normal champion in League of Legends.

Mordekaiser’s pet

League of Legends: Champion mechanics that got removed for being too OP 1

The Gladiator of the Bottom Lane, Mordekaiser, introduced one of the most polarizing versions in League of Legends history. His ability to summon a dragon spirit as a pet and push lanes with ease became a staple strategy, dominating professional tournaments with near-perfect ban/pick ratios.

Mordekaiser’s overwhelming strength in the bot lane, coupled with the supportive meta of League of Legends that time, allowed him to snowball to victory effortlessly. Eventually, Riot Games had to remove this mechanic in subsequent versions in preparation for a Mordekaiser rework.

Aatrox revival

worlds
Image via Riot Games

The post-rework version of Aatrox tackled the problem of his previously straightforward kit by introducing flashy abilities. These abilities encompassed everything from hard CC, to soft CC like slowing and pulling opponents, and even increased mobility with a dash.

Additionally, he could heal from both basic and ultimate abilities. Perhaps most frustratingly, he gained the ability to transform into an untargetable target (in the first rework) and then resurrect upon his death (in the second rework).

Although Riot Games eventually removed the resurrection aspect from his kit, Aatrox remains a strategic pick in League of Legends, favored by many professional players even today.

Jax ‘doging’ turrets

Jax recently underwent a rework, but his signature ability, Counter Strike, remained unchanged. This ability allows him to dodge all basic attacks (excluding those from towers) for a brief period. However, this ability is now considerably weaker compared to its original iteration.

Initially, Jax’s Counter Strike was a passive ability that granted him a bonus dodge chance of 10-18%. Upon successfully dodging an attack, he could activate the ability to stun nearby enemies. Coupled with items and runes that further boosted his dodge chance, Jax could achieve a dodge rate of up to 34.5%, meaning he could dodge at least one out of every three attacks.

Furthermore, this ability even allowed him to dodge attacks from structures like towers and inhibitors. Recognizing the imbalance, Riot Games removed the passive dodge chance and reworked Jax to prevent him from dodging attacks from structures.

Riot holds enormous events across all of its titles every summer. This year will be no exception.

Around the same time last year, we received the Star Guardian event. It took place across several Riot titles, including League of Legends, Wild Rift, Legends of Runeterra, and Teamfight Tactics. While the idea was similar, each game in this event presented something completely distinct.

Riot has recently released a teaser that teases much of the forthcoming content in Wild Rift during this event.  A new game mode, a new “meta-game,” new objectives, and, most importantly, new skins are among the major contents.

Wild Rift players, in particular, will be treated to an exclusive story centred on Yasuo and Draven competing in the Tournament of Souls, similar to those seen in previous Sentinels of Light and Star Guardian events. Those who wish to put their talents to the test can participate in the mobile title’s limited-time “Tag Duel” mode, which plays similarly to a tag fighting game.

The Soul Fighter cast will also appear drastically different in Wild Rift compared to Lol, with none of the LoL skins making their way into Wild Rift. Instead, Wild Rift will receive six unique skins that only its players will be able to use, including Nilah’s debut skin.

League players have discovered Legendary Mythmaker Irelia is a “pay to lose” skin https://notagamer.net/league-legendary-mythmaker-irelia-pay-to-lose-skin/ https://notagamer.net/league-legendary-mythmaker-irelia-pay-to-lose-skin/#respond Tue, 24 Jan 2023 14:55:08 +0000 https://notagamer.net/?p=57625 Skins in League of Legends frequently spark outrage when they have an impact on gameplay, but this case was too obvious for the Legendary skin, Mythmaker Irelia.

League of Legends players are very excited as Riot Games recently released the Mythmaker and Lunar God skins and an event that will bring a new wave of content. While most skins have little effect on gameplay, some, like as Mythic and Legendary skins, may incorporate VFX animation alterations that can offer champions a noticeable edge.

League players have discovered Legendary Mythmaker Irelia is a "pay to lose" skin 16
Image via Riot Games

Sadly, this was not the case for the recent Mythmaker Irelia, as League players have pointed out the huge disadvantage features that made the skin as “pay to lose”.

Mythmaker Irelia is a “pay to lose” skin

Riot Games has changed her auto attack VFX for the Mythmaker Irelia skin, in addition to changing her voice lines, recall, and ability animations. This has been slammed by users on League’s subreddit, who claim it has harmed the champion significantly.

While the skin’s VFX animations are viewed in slow motion, one player noticed a minor delay between Irelia’s animation and the blade’s impact when hitting opponents.

This is especially noticeable early in the game, when Irelia lacks additional attack speed and her auto attacks are critical to her dominance in the laning phase. Performance early in the game is critical to Irelia’s influence; a single missed/cancelled auto-attack owing to unsynchronized VFX is fatal to being irrelevant for the remainder of the game.

It’s unknown whether Riot will fix Mythmaker Irelia’s VFX animations or return the auto-attack animations.

Lunar Revel receives beautiful cinematic, fans still feel lackluster for League Season 2023 https://notagamer.net/lunar-revel-cinematic-fans-lackluster-league-season-2023/ https://notagamer.net/lunar-revel-cinematic-fans-lackluster-league-season-2023/#respond Thu, 12 Jan 2023 02:44:59 +0000 https://notagamer.net/?p=57368 Lunar Revel 2023 Cinematic

The first League of Legends cinematic for the year is now available. Riot Games has revealed a cinematic teaser for the forthcoming Lunar Revel event “Hop On” in League of Legends.

Champions dressed in Lunar Revel attire fly across several scenic settings on a magical flying bus in the video. The cinematic contains no speech, yet it is masterfully produced in a way that combines 2D and 3D images.

Panda Annie, Brave Phoenix Xayah, and many new skins from the Lunar Revel 2023 event are among the skins featured in the “Hop On” cinematic. The forthcoming Mythmaker Garen, Mythmaker Irelia, Lunar Empress Ashe, and Lunar Emperor Thresh were among the new skins showcased.

The cinematic for the Lunar Revel 2023 event arrives only one day after Riot failed to meet fan expectations for the debut of a new ranked season cinematic.

Riot apologized for the lackluster of Season 2023 Cinematic

Riot has been releasing a cinematic for each season to hype up the year since season 2018 with the release of The Climb. Riot, on the other hand, delivered the cinematic for season 13, The Brink of Infinity, in 2023. While fans were thrilled to see what Riot was up to, they were swiftly let down by the cinematic, which was lackluster and minimalist.

Riot Games posted a thread on Twitter less than a day after the cinematic’s release. And this thread was an apology for the Season 2023 Cinematic catastrophe.

However, they then noted that owing to “unprecedented circumstances,” this year’s season cinematic was different than prior years. Despite the fact that they thought the season 2023 cinematic kept the same spirit as the previous. They admitted that they were mistaken in this situation and that they could have connected more with the fans.

Riot also stated that they continue to believe in League’s future and are investing in it. Finally, they emphasized that we will see how that investment appears in the future days.

Currently, all we can do is wait, and we don’t have to wait for long. Since the Lunar Revel 2023 cinematic is already out, it looks like Riot is heading toward the correct path.

League of Legends: Sustain changes for Fighter champions coming soon https://notagamer.net/league-of-legends-sustain-changes-fighter-champions/ https://notagamer.net/league-of-legends-sustain-changes-fighter-champions/#respond Thu, 05 Jan 2023 11:30:24 +0000 https://notagamer.net/?p=57158 League Patch 13.1 notes have just been revealed, so we know what to expect when Season 13 begins in the coming days. But we also learned more about what Riot plans to introduce to the game for Fighter champions in the next few weeks.

Sustain changes on Fighter champions

League of Legends: Sustain changes for Fighter champions coming soon 18

While fans are delighted about all of the improvements revealed for Patch 13.1, the devs have one more surprise in store for them in the coming weeks that is connected to a whole class of champions.

According to Riot Phlox, the devs are looking into some changes toward the sustainability of the Fighter class, one of the most broken classes in recent days.

Fighter champions are high-risk, high-reward champions that specialize in skirmishing and battling and have mid-game potential due to their durable builds and strong damage output.

Normally, this type of champions doesn’t have the durability like tanks, However, it has recently felt as though fighters are the new tanks, with an extra pile of damage in their kit making them hard to play against.

League of Legends: Sustain changes for Fighter champions coming soon 19
Image via Riot Games

Champions like Irelia, Aatrox, and Fiora are just some examples, and with the inclusion of the new tank items, Jak’Sho, The Protean and Heartsteel, they appear to be even more unkillable than before.

When going off against long ranged champions, their low range, which should be their vulnerability, doesn’t really matter because no amount of damage can take them down. Eventually, they will catch up with the long-ranged champions, and that’s the end for them.

League of Legends: Sustain changes for Fighter champions coming soon 20
Image via Riot Games

One of the concerns with Fighters right now is the amount of healing and sustain they’ve been gaining, which means they can take a critical blow and recover back up before dying owing to their natural durability, making it feel unfair to play them.

While these modifications should be implemented in the next patches, no formal details have been released. More information, though, should be available in the following weeks.

League of Legends: Why is Riot selling Epic skins for 1820RP? https://notagamer.net/league-of-legends-riot-epic-skins-1820rp/ https://notagamer.net/league-of-legends-riot-epic-skins-1820rp/#respond Sun, 11 Dec 2022 18:13:47 +0000 https://notagamer.net/?p=56329
New Lunar Mythmaker skins revealed to celebrate LoL Lunar New Year! 5
Image via Riot Games

Riot is releasing new skin for Irelia, but it appears that some fans are not pleased. Her new Mythmaker skin is meant to be the first legendary of the year, however many fans are dissatisfied by the animations.

Irelia is an old champion who depends largely on her auto attacks and passive, which set her apart from others, however, it appears that many fans are unwilling to pay 1820 RP for her poor animation of the impending Mythmaker skin, compared to other Legendary skins.

Fans disappoint by Riot’s new Legendary skin: Mythmaker Irelia

Following the introduction of one of the best Legendary skins of all time, Winterblessed Diana, as well as a unique and amazingly fantastic legendary skin for Empyrean Pyke, this new Mythmaker Irelia skin appears lackluster.

Fans agree that the skin is stunning and that the theme and colors complement her well. But many criticisms from the community have been made about the absence of updated VFX on her passive, as well as the lack of new auto-attack animations.

Justalostdudeasking, a Reddit user, pointed out that there are several aspects missing from the skin to really classify it as legendary, especially given the great legendaries the community has gotten in the last two months.

One of the most important things they brought up was the fact that Irelia didn’t get a new auto-attack animation despite being an auto-attack-based champion.

Her passive, which is another vital element of her overall kit, likewise has no effect… when compared to Winterblessed Diana Pentakill effect, it’s just poor.

Also, the animations for E and W are nearly identical, and the voice-over for her W hasn’t been updated. Irelia doesn’t even get a unique animation for a kill, therefore this skin doesn’t stand out from the crowd.

This isn’t the first time Riot has failed with its 2022 skins. The legendary Sivir skin was also failing, and two Ashen Knight skins, which are mythic and deemed rare, were also poorly regarded by the community.

It remains to be seen if Riot will make significant adjustments to the skin; for the time being, it is only a matter of time.

Every year, League of Legends celebrates the Lunar New Year by releasing new skins and new events related to the Chinese New Year at the beginning of the year.

Earlier this week, a PBE teaser revealed two new forthcoming skin lines dubbed “Mythmaker” and “Lunar,” which are slated to be the New Year’s thematic for 2023 and will have a wide range of Chinese-themed skins for all sorts of champions.

Each Mythmaker skin relates to a Chinese ritual, such as making paper lanterns, zodiac origami, cuisine, and flowers. On the other hand, while the Mythmaker skin line takes advantage of the red and white color scheme, The Lunar skins are dusted with mystic golden auras like the previous edition of the skin line.

Spirit Blossom is one of League of Legends’ most popular events, featuring a limited-time game mode, a visual novel-style side game, and some of the finest skins the game has to offer. Champions like Yasuo, Riven, Kindred… have some of the best animations the skin line has brought to the game.

Riot Games has released multiple Spirit Blossom skins in League of Legends, but despite the skin line’s backstory being intricately connected to Irelia’s lore, the creators have yet to create one for her.

Nonetheless, one of the designers drew a stunning splash art of what the skin may look like if it were to be included to the game. Bo Chen, a senior artist at Riot, posted his work on ArtStation, where fans may delve into the concept art’s minutiae.

According to Bo Chen, the splash art design was heavily influenced by Spirit Blossom Yone and Spirit Blossom Riven.

The Irelia design, like other skins in the Spirit Blossom series, utilizes bright tones. The champion’s costume is predominantly white, pink, and red, with hints of purple and gold thrown over the background.

There have been several leaks and reports claiming that this year’s Worlds would be a Spirit Blossom Event. Many Spirit Blossom skins have been leaked, however, Spirit Blossom Irelia is not one of them.

Still, there is a potential that a Spirit Blossom skin for Irelia may be released in the future. Because Spirit Blossom skins are based on Ionian lore, and Irelia is such a prominent Ionia champion throughout the game, we may see her in the skin line in the future.
